High Rooftop Lounge at the Hotel Erwin, located right on Venice Beach, is debatably one of the best places for drinks + sunset watching in LA! You can go during the day for incredible views of the sunny California coast, as well as a 360 degree view of westside LA, OR you can go at night and watch one of LA’s infamous sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. This place hasn’t really been discovered by the masses yet (although you’ll always find it buzzing with people), which is why I consider it one of LA’s greatest hidden gems.

The People: You’ll find all age ranges here, but the typical crowd is in their mid-twenties to mid-thirties. When I went, it seemed to be a mix of tourists that were staying at the hotel + young LA natives.

The Food and Drinks: The cocktails here are really great, but pricey ($15). As for the food, I’ve yet to try it, but definitely will be testing it out next time because it looked and smelled great and isn’t as expensive as the drinks! Plus, you can pretty much find anything you’re looking for on their menu as it consists of cuisines from all over (American, Mediterranean, Asian, European).

The Prices: Like I just mentioned, this place is pricey, but so worth it! When you come here, you just accept that you’re paying for the ambience as well. I’ve only come to get drinks and stand around the deck, but you can pay more to have a seated section to yourself. The latter option is recommend if you have a big party with you.

The Ambience: As the name suggests, the vibe is very lounge-y. There’s a DJ at the front of the deck playing a mix of popular hits + old rap, but it only plays lightly in the background rather than blaring throughout the rooftop. That being said, the overall feel is upscale, but relaxed with a fun vibe.

Tips: Parking is limited to the hotel’s valet or public parking across the street for $15. So I strongly recommend ubering or taking a cab if you don’t want to pay the added cost!
